As a server, you’ll work weekends and holidays. You’ll have off when all your friends are working. You’ll have mindless chores (“Sidework”) to do.
An incredibly rude family will request your station every day of their vacation and won’t tip. You’ll burn your arm on the warming lamp. Some days your back will hurt. Most days your feet will hurt. Your clothes will smell. You will drop a plate of food in the middle of the restaurant, in the middle of the rush.
And then, just as your shift is about to end, the manager will ask you to stay and work a double.
